Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
